| Just barely under the wire, how's
about some random photos from October.

Here's an elk that Cody got this past Monday. No, it's not
a trophy, but we both felt pretty darn lucky to have gotten
him. This was at 9400', after having gotten up at 3:00 AM (Cody's
idea). And of course that's after we'd packed about halfway
in by starlight two nights before. That was actually big fun,
until Cody woke up with food poisoning. I tell ya, fast food
burgers just don't cut it anymore. Not when you're used to eating
Real Meat.

Luckily he recovered, and this draw is a lot steeper
than it looks. Enough so that one person can drag an elk down
it, even with no snow. We'd glassed a number of bulls here the
evening before, and were on top at daylight. Just barely
in time for one fleeting opportunity. Cody didn't even
hesitate. He's going to be spending most of his time skinning
buffalo, and figured this might be his only opportunity. A wise
decision...

In fact a pleased buffalo client, Bob Hatfield
gave him this $350 totally bitchin' custom knife as a tip! Thanks,
Bob.

Gorgeous view, but not exactly the best elk
hunting weather.

An adventure or four later we're back at the trailhead.
30 year old Bo remains the best caboose packhorse in the Rocky
Mountains, and although he's bucked me off, he's never batted
an eye at packing meat.

Who knows, maybe we picked up some Good Medicine
from these.

An unrelated photo, from our 26th Anniversary
Chico weekend. This is in Gardiner, where they don't have to
fertilize the football field as the elk do it.
