Zan Parr Bud, aka Buddy

Buddy is a 4-year old AQHA gelding (Zan Parr top and bottom) that is remarkably calm and quiet for his age. Not only that, he's well-broke, gentle, friendly, easy to catch, and used to kids, dogs, cattle, goats, and generally takes whatever comes his way with aplomb. His papers call him a blue roan, and while his winter coat was roanish he's shed out to what I'd call more of a grey. No matter what you call it, Buddy is a gorgeous horse, with a personality to match. He's ranch-raised, used on cattle as well as trail riding in the mountains and badlands, and was high point in the 2-3 year old stallion halter division on the South Dakota show circuit. He is still basically a teenager, and I'd rank his reining about 7 on a scale of 10. His side pass needs a little work, but give him another year or so of regular usage, and you will have a polished, beautiful gelding that you'll be proud to ride anywhere. Even right now, though, he's the kind of horse a teenager can hop on bareback and ride with just a halter and lead rope. With the other horses, he's everyone's buddy, exuberant and playful, and his basic good nature endears him to one and all, horses and human.

Buddy stands an even fifteen hands, probably 1050-1100#. One thing that we've been impressed with is his strength. Roping is not particularly our thing, but if it's yours Buddy has the potential to make a top-notch heading horse.

Our horse usage leans more toward mountain packtrips, and Buddy has taken to creek crossings and rugged terrain without batting an eye. He's a young horse with a bright future, and will give you his best for many years to come.

You might notice he's currently sporting sort of a mohawk 'do. I figure if horses were meant to have their manes shaved at the poll, God would have built 'em that way, and so Buddy's mane is growing back out. Although it makes him look a trifle goofy at the moment, it doesn't seem to have negatively impacted his self-esteem. Joking aside, he is a compliant horse, and perhaps partly due to his youth comes in at about the lower third of the herd pecking order here at the Rockpile Ranch. That easy-going nature means he won't be challenging you for dominance, although of course like any horse you need to make sure you're viewed as superior in the pecking order. Fortunately, with a horse like Buddy that requires next to no effort, and I have a feeling if you come out here and ride him, you'll want to take him home. Negative Coggins, shod, ready to go...
